I suppose he has been paying more attention to the news, posts, fandom, etc. He texted me asking “if it’s alright for him to despise the majority of the fanom.” I don’t think he’d think I’d respond this way, but I said…
No. It’s not. And now you have lit the explosive baby. Because now I’m going to go off. If you want you can just pretend to have read this and nod your head and smile but here I go. When I first started the trilogy in 2008, barely anybody had read the book. I had to force people to just so I could talk about it. And that was alright. But then when I made my tumblr and had around 500 followers it was the best. I had made some really good friends and we would have discussions about the meaning and depth and debate civilly about certain subjects and it was like a loving family at a book club just admiring and breathing this series. We’d joke around and at this point we had no news about the movie besides that it was rumoured to be some time in March. As time moved on and more news came the fans have become stupider and stupider. I’m not saying you have had to be a fan from the beginning to love the books, but as the fandom grew it allowed more space for idiots. There’s stupid, immature little girls who constantly make bread jokes about Peeta, and that’s the main thing that pisses me off. If anything he should be identified by painting, what he was passionate about. Not what his father was. And all these jokes cloud how actually hilarious, smart, and brave he is. And Finnick’s story is one of the most tragic and they make him out to be a joke. It’s just reminding me more and more of the Twilight fan base as time goes on because all they talk about is how hot the boys are or just generally idiotic and constantly making sex jokes. Anyone who actually thinks there is a “team” to choose from, I.E., “team Peeta” or “team Gale” should reread the series and focus on what’s important. There is only the dandelion and that’s it. Katniss could not have ever recovered the way she did of it wasn’t for Peeta. She needs him more than she realizes and Gale just couldn’t ever give her the emotional support she needed. It’s rare to find a fan that these books have actually changed and effected for the greater and meaning rather than the love triangle. And don’t even get me started on the amount of disrespectful, pathetic and cowardly anonymous messages I receive. Ugh.
Anyways, you don’t have to read that. The point of this whole post is A) to let me vent and explode and B) to genuinely thank each and every one of you that I am following. If I am following you that means I think you provide so much to the fandom. You are all great and I wouldn’t even bother with this blog without you. Thank you. I love you all.
P.S. If you’re going to send me hate for this post, I pity you.
